Holy Week Services 2021

Holy Week Services

March 28:  Palm/Passion Sunday  Holy Week begins with a special joint virtual worship service of music and scripture between Wesley UMC and Homer UMC that sweeps us up into, first, the triumphant procession with palms into Jerusalem.  Worship then takes us through the events of Christ’s last week:  the Last Supper, the Garden of Gethsemane, the Betrayal, Arrest, Trial and Crucifixion and end with the Shrouding of the Cross.  Without taking time to spend in the events of this week, we will not be ready to grasp the power and joy that is Easter, so please make a point of joining us in worship on March 28 on our YouTube channel.  The service will premier at 9:00 am and then be available any time after.

April 1, Maundy Thursday:  We encourage everyone to tune in to our YouTube channel at 7:00 pm for a unique Tenebrae Service (Service of Shadows) featuring the light of Christ present in the shadows of Christ’s Passion as well as the shadows we have all endured during this pandemic year.

April 2, Good Friday:  This year we will be featuring the Stations of Christ’s Passion for our 7:00 pm Good Friday service.  Many of the Stations were created by individuals from Christ First UMC in Wasilla, Alaska.  Each Station will include scripture, the artist’s rendition and often their reflection.  The service will open with “Lament of the Cross”, special music by Chris Jordan and Mary Stoltman.  This service will be available to watch at 7:00 our YouTube channel on Good Friday or any time after.

April 4, Easter Sunday This incredible worship service will move us from a shrouded cross to alleluias!  There will be special music from our choir, un-burying of the Alleluia, images of sidewalk chalk butterflies created by our congregation at their homes, and, of course, the proclamation of our Savior’s Resurrection!  Join us at 10:00 am we proclaim:  Christ is risen!  Christ is risen, indeed!!
